When I stepped into my role as Managing Director of Spark Ventures, now nearly 2 years ago, I joined with an already strong appreciation for the mission and accomplishments of the organization, having been a supporter for a number of years. But, the past two years have afforded me the opportunity to get to know our partner organizations on a deeper, more personal level. Through ongoing collaboration and regular visits, I have developed strong relationships with the leaders of our partners in Zambia, Nicaragua and Mexico. I am constantly humbled by the dedication and perseverance of these leaders in our joint goal to empower future leaders and lift communities out of poverty.

I’ve had the opportunity to oversee enormous growth in Zambia from the purchase of land for a new vegetable farm to the building of new classrooms, sanitation facilities and a new library.

I have stood alongside our Nicaraguan partners as they managed the challenges of social and political unrest, supporting them as they make difficult budgetary decisions, and celebrating with them when the Spark community stepped up to make those decisions just a bit easier.

And I have shared in the celebration of women entrepreneurs being empowered in Mexico by learning new skills to help them earn a living and how the lives of at-risk youth have been changed by the educational and social-emotional support that they and their families received.

I was drawn to join Spark Ventures thanks to the power of our community but the past two years have shown me the true dedication and passion that this community holds. I am honored to help shepherd this organization along with the confidence that the powerful family of Spark Ventures’ supporters stands alongside us.

I hope you enjoy perusing some of our biggest milestones from the past year, contained in this report. We are certainly proud of the work we have accomplished together and we look forward to what 2019 has in store for us.

With gratitude,

Kristin Schrepferman
Managing Director
