In 2015, over 400,000 individuals died of malaria and 212 million new cases were documented. About 90% of malaria-related deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa. But, early diagnosis and treatment of malaria reduces disease and prevents deaths. It also contributes to reducing malaria transmission.
In 2009, 75% of the students attending Hope Community School tested positive for malaria. Since then, with Spark’s support of a biannual clinic focusing on health maintenance and malaria testing, the malaria rate has decreased to only 5% of students testing positive.
