Meet Carol: Spark’s Newest Board Member
A warm welcome to the newest member of Spark’s Board of Directors, Carol Thompson!
We are thrilled to introduce you to the Spark community, Carol! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Iowa. I have a B.A. in Journalism and Sociology from the University of Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1989. I moved to Chicago after graduation to start my career in law. I recently retired after 34 years as an attorney with Chapman and Cutler in Chicago. I’ve been an active member of the Civic Federation of Chicago, serving as a Board member, a member of the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee. I recently served as a member of the Implementation Task Force for the Illinois Supreme Court’s Commission on Pre-Trial Practices.
I raised two children and I currently live in Naperville. I enjoy traveling, cooking, entertaining, spending time with family and friends, and following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
How were you first introduced to Spark?
I was introduced to Spark by former Board member Stacy Wells over ten years ago. I’ve traveled with Spark to visit our partners in Nicaragua and to Mexico twice. I’ve attended many Spark events over the years and I’m an enthusiastic supporter.
What are you looking forward to as a new Director on Spark’s Board?
I’m looking forward to getting more involved, going on more Spark trips, introducing more friends & family to Spark, and working with the Board to support our partners.
